چکیده

Collection size of 3 species of mosquitoes (Aedes taeniorhynchus, Anopheles atropos, and Culex nigripalpus) and a species of biting midge (Culicoides furens) in CDC-type traps baited with carbon dioxide and octenol were significantly increased with the addition of heat. The presence of heat also significantly reduced collection size of the tabanid Diachlorus ferrugatus.

Evaluation of carbon dioxide, 1-octen-3-ol, and lactic acid as baits in Mosquito Magnet Pro traps for Aedes albopictus in north central Florida.

The impact of the attractants l-octen-3-ol (octenol) and L-lactic acid (LurexTM) on collection of Aedes albopictus in suburban backyards was assessed in Mosquito Magnet Pro traps. These carbon dioxide-producing traps were additionally baited with commercial formulated lures with octenol, lactic acid, octenol + lactic acid, or no attractant (control) and evaluated in 4 residential sites. Three r...

Some References on the Use of CO2 for Medical Entomology Survey

Field studies were conducted in the Upper Rhine Valley to determine the responses of mosquitoes to CDC traps baited with either CO2, octenol, light or paired combinations of these. Among eight mosquito species caught, the attractant effect on trap catches was studied in the four most abundant: Aedes vexans, Ae. rossicus, Ae. cinereus and Culex pipiens. Traps baited only with light or octenol ca...

Light, carbon dioxide, and octenol-baited mosquito trap and host-seeking activity evaluations for mosquitoes in a malarious area of the Republic of Korea.

Two field trials for commercially available and experimental mosquito traps variously baited with light, carbon dioxide, octenol, or combinations of these were evaluated in a malarious area at Paekyeon-Ri near Tongil-Chon (village) and Camp Greaves, Paju County, Kyonggi Province, Republic of Korea. The host-seeking activity for common mosquito species was determined using hourly aspirator colle...

The relative attractiveness of carbon dioxide and octenol in CDC- and EVS-type light traps for sampling the mosquitoes Aedes aegypti (L.), Aedes polynesiensis Marks, and Culex quinquefasciatus say in Moorea, French Polynesia.

Two dominant day-biting pests and vector species on the island of Moorea in French Polynesia are Aedes (Stegomyia) aegypti (L.) and Aedes (Stegomyia) polynesiensis Marks, major vectors of dengue viruses and Wuchereria bancrofti, respectively. Their surveillance is hindered by a relative lack of attraction to light traps, necessitating the undesirable use of human bait collections with the inher...

Evaluation of carbon dioxide- and 1-octen-3-ol-baited Centers for Disease Control Fay-Prince traps to collect Aedes albopictus.

During the summer of 2001, field studies were performed to evaluate the effects of carbon dioxide (CO2) and 1-octen-3-ol (octenol) on the ability to collect Aedes albopictus with Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Fay-Prince traps. Results from these studies indicated that Ae. albopictus is significantly more attracted to CO2- or CO2 + octenol-baited CDC Fay-Prince traps than unbaited or octenol...
